Hong Kong Survival Guide

You did it! You got your admission letter, you got your visa… you just need to fly to Hong Kong. Y’know, just a huge step onto the next stage of your life and all that jazz. No big deal, right?

Just kidding. We know it can get pretty overwhelming with just how much there is to do – but don’t worry! We’re here to guide you through the process. This covers everything from before you fly, right after landing, and moving forward in Hong Kong.

If you still have any unanswered questions, reach out to us! Leave a comment below or ask us through IG or email! We’ll continue updating this guide with new and relevant information to become more comprehensive over time.

Preparing for your journey

Have you packed everything? What are you even supposed to bring? How much money should you prepare? Anything you’re supposed to do before entering Hong Kong? Sorry, sorry, we know your parents are probably talking your ears off with the same questions, but we’ve got you covered! Check out our guide for everything you should prepare before boarding your flight.

Settling in

You made it to Hong Kong! You’re here! Your new life is just within reach! And that’s all true, but you also have to start… ugh, adulting. We know, it sucks, it’s confusing, but we’ve summarized it all for you! We’ll take you through the steps of purchasing a SIM card, making your Hong Kong Identity card, getting an Octopus card (wow, there’s a lot of cards, huh?), and opening a bank account.

Exploring Hong Kong

Okay, now we can finally get to the fun part! The most exciting part of studying abroad is the exploring… we won’t tell you where to go (because that’s up to you!) but we will tell you how to make exploring the city easier! It’s always a good idea to know the transportation system before you go exploring. Our guide also includes places of worship for different religions and a list of apps that will make your life in Hong Kong easier!

Basic Cantonese

Though you can survive just fine in Hong Kong with only English, it’s still useful to know some basic Cantonese. Our guide won’t make you a Cantonese expert, but you’ll be able to buy stuff on your own in no time!

We hope this helps you out! And if you still have unanswered questions, just ask us. Don’t worry, we don’t bite!

We can’t wait to see you all in Hong Kong!
